Background
The Tricia Danielle Johnson Memorial Scholarship has been created in honor of her life and the difference she has made in the lives of Black Youth. This scholarship aims to continue her legacy by supporting Black Youth in pursuing their goals and achieving their dreams. This $1000 scholarship is sponsored by Family, Friends and Donors.
Tricia, a Black Canadian of Jamaican parents, was a devoted mother of two children. She was an advocate for the disadvantaged and underprivileged. She had a strong determination for education, fairness for all and she encouraged confidence and self-worth in family, friends and people in her sphere of influence.
Tricia utilized her skills in every situation that necessitated her involvement in coaching, mentoring, and teaching Black Youth that they have a voice and that they are significant in creating a better and healthier society.
The Tricia Danielle Johnson Memorial Scholarship is valued at $1000 and is intended for candidates pursuing a career in the SKILLED TRADES INDUSTRY.
To qualify for The Tricia Danielle Johnson Memorial Scholarship candidates must meet the following Eligibility Criteria:
- Be between the ages of 18-30
- Be of Black/African-Caribbean descent
- Be a Canadian Citizen OR Permanent resident in Ontario
- Be a resident and student of the GTA
- Be in full- time attendance at a GTA College, University or Registered Skilled Trades School
- Be in their last year of High school OR have graduated from High school, and have a full- time Offer of Admission of a Skilled Trades Program from a GTA College, University or Registered Skilled Trades school for the 2025-2026 school semester
- Proof of Community Service for applicants attending College, University or Registered Skilled Trades school
- Proof of Mandatory 40 Community hours for recent High school graduates
- Winner must be available to attend the Award Ceremony in February 2025
The following documents must accompany your Scholarship Application:
Applicants currently attending a Post-secondary School:
- Provide confirmation verifying attendance in a GTA College, University or Registered Skilled Trades School
- Provide a written letter of support from a Community Organization who can attest to your Community Volunteer Service
Grade 12 Applicants:
- Provide an Offer of Admission letter from a GTA College, University or Registered Skilled Trades School
- Provide confirmation of Mandatory 40 volunteer hours achieved within your High-School. If you are, or have volunteered in the Community, provide a written Letter of Support from the Organization who can attest to your participation.
Scholarship Applications must be received by email no later than MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 31, 2025
- Please note the following:
- 1) Only applicants who are selected for an interview will be contacted by the Selection Committee.
- 2) Any candidate who provides false information on his/her Scholarship Application or to the Selection Committee will not be eligible to receive the award.
